Share Your Voice
Mascot United hosts quarterly community meetings to bring residents, leaders, and partners together in open conversation. These meetings are a space to share ideas, discuss local needs, and work together toward solutions that strengthen our neighborhood.
Everyone is welcome—whether you’re a longtime resident, a new neighbor, or simply someone who wants to get involved. Your voice matters, and your input helps guide the direction of our events, programs, and priorities.
Check our events calendar or follow our Mascot United Facebook Group for the next scheduled meeting. Let’s build a better Mascot, together.
Previous Community Meeting Highlights:
Mascot United with County Commissioner,
Adam Thompson
During this meeting we hosted several special guests, including Kendra and Lee Ellis from the nonprofit group A Step Towards Home, County Commissioner Adam Thompson, and Rural Metro Fire Chief Keith Cate, who recently stepped into his new role (although the chief and his team were called away, we appreciated their presence and support.)
The meeting also included updates about upcoming community events such as the Sunset Cinema and Christmas Parade, and we announced the use of SeeClickFix, an app residents can use to report maintenance issues such as park repairs, road concerns, or other service needs and these will be addressed directly by Knox County.
Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to help move Mascot forward—your voice matters and it's our mission to provide the resources to communicate it.
During this meeting, we discussed the Park Advisory Board meetings hosted by Knox County and a major focus was Mascot United’s application for an annual permit to utilize the park more consistently and officially for public gatherings and programs.
We also announced some events that we partnered with Knox County Parks and Rec for: the “Sunset Cinema" would take place on October 25th featuring two movies, and “Park & Play” which happened during the summer and was a success! Beyond that, we began considering the development of a Mascot Fall Festival: the necessary permits, planning timelines, and county approvals required to bring the idea to life.
We then shared the success of the Mascot United Blessing Box— it is filled frequently and used just as much!
The evening began with a presentation from representatives of Martin Marietta, the company that recently acquired Bluewater Industries and now operates the local quarry. The team provided an overview of their daily operations and engaged in transparent discussion about mine blasting with attendees. They also announced plans to host an Open House event during the summer, inviting the public to learn more about their work.
The second half of the meeting focused on Mascot United officer elections.
Stephanie Kemp stepped down from Treasurer after her dedicated service.
Two new officers were elected: Chloe Hightower as Secretary and Courtney Hightower as Co-Treasurer.
All other officers and board members retained their positions.
We thank everyone who attended and continues to support the growth and collaboration within the Mascot community.
At our November community meeting, we gathered to look ahead and continue building momentum as the year comes to a close. Discussions included planning for next year’s board members and outlining roles and opportunities for those interested in serving our growing organization.
We also began preparing for one of our biggest upcoming events—the Mascot Christmas Parade—along with other exciting holiday activities and community celebrations!
Thank you to everyone who continues to show up, speak up, and support the vision of a more connected, empowered Mascot.

This meeting focused on the mines and quarries and calling community leadership (Also, isn't our new logo so cool?! Thank you, Jason Trammell!)
Community members received updates on local mining and quarry operations. The conversation centered around transparency, potential impacts on the community, and the importance of staying informed and involved in ongoing developments.
Mascot United invited residents to step into leadership and organizing roles to help continue the momentum of our grassroots work. With growing community interest, we’re looking for volunteers to help plan events, lead initiatives, and support the mission of building a stronger Mascot.
"Mascot United," formerly Mascot Matters, held its first-ever community meeting at Roseberry Baptist Church, marking a pivotal moment in the formation of our organization. This gathering brought together local voices with a shared goal: to build a stronger, more connected Mascot.
It was the beginning of a movement—one focused on community-driven progress and meaningful change. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who attended and contributed. Your involvement helped ignite what has now become a lasting effort to uplift and unite the Mascot community.
